If you are not familiar with Japanese music, specially visual kei then you probably are wondering who is this guy? Well Kamijo is a very famous singer in the Visual Kei music field. He was vocalist of the band Lareine and then more people knew him because he was vocalist of Versailles and now he is as solo singer.
Moulin Rouge is one of his latest songs but previously to that he already released one single, a mini album, this single and one that is coming next. So he actually always is creating new songs. His voice is powerful and just precious. If you never have listened to him then I will recommend you to do so. His voice is very nice and is amazing for ballad songs or very hard rock songs, he can sing anything and his voice adjust beautifully. Just compare his voice in Lareine and Versailles, many people can't believe he was the same guy.
The song is fun to listen to. Once again this song is different from Symphony of the Vampire or even Grazioso. I just love how Kamijo plays with melodies and doesn't get stuck on one melody, he just tries different aspects of rock music.
Just a little but it made me remember Acid Black Cherry with their first song, was it Black Cherry? sorry that I don't remember the song title, please write below if you know the title ^^;; Anyhow even though actually has nothing to do, I mean I remember it because of the fun or up beat of the song or even the debut song of Gremlins...the three songs are different but has that kind of jazzy, fun beat inside a rock song.
The video is another thing, I actually didn't like it and found it boring and if it wasn't because of Kamijo I would have just closed the window. I actually just opened another tab and kept listening to the song but stopped watching the video. I was really disappointed of the low budget video and so not creative video when the video had the potential to be creative and introduce us to a magical world. I mean the video is not fair to such an awesome song!
I could write more about how unfair was this video to the song, how terrible it was. Anyhow I will leave it for you to watch and have your own perception of he song and video (specially the song, the song worth it!)
....The video wasn't that awful. But what you said though was true though. The song is a fertile ground for a more creative music video. But this, well it's just plain. It would have be boring without Kamijo. Plus, the girls dancing with him could use a bit more energy to turn it into a lively jazz concert. The band(I believe its MU) is not helping at all. they're just playing without any care to the song. Anyway, I love the song and I'm looking forward to my copy of the entire single :-)
ReplyDeleteI agree with you, the dancers and band could have given more energy to the video but they didn't.
DeleteHopefully next video will be better.
You ordered a copy? How cool!! *^u^*
....let's just hope that "Yamiyo no Lion" would have a better video than this. But you have to admit, Moulin rouge is a breather to his usual dark, symphonic songs like SOTV
DeleteAs you said Moulin Rouge was a nice change from his previous dark style, personally I love SOTV but I will love if he releases something like Lareine...I love Kamijo since Lareine and I miss that beautiful sound that Lareine used to have. Moulin Rouge sort of made remember Fuyu Tokyo but will love to hear something similar to Billet, Lillie Charlotte but I do love his dark style too.
Delete....My copy arrived earlier than expected. So of course I listened to all three songs, and I found out that the second track "Tresor" borrowed the last lyrics of "Royal Tercet". Creepy right? But that's not all. the last track "Tsuioku no Mon Amour" seems to be darker than the previous songs.....hope the translations and romanizations arrive soon 'cause this is turning out to be a continuation of SOTV
